Interpretation of The Old man and The Sea

►►According to me, the story

The old man and
                          The sea……

Presenting the struggle of life it also represent some kind of part of life called success and failure.

Santaigo, the protagonist of this novella, who is the king of fishing, but he fails at end of this story,,…..but in his fealiur their was a hidden success. which made him feel pride. he faces many difficulty, while fishing, but the story also tell that, Even if, we tried our best, but if our luck is oppose to us than at the end there is zero.

       So, it is said that,

Whatever our desire or hard work is, but destiny plays vital role in our life.

His business was passion for him, but it also cause difficulty towards him, As he went too far, without thinking anything so,,,

I Think his Passion becomes his weakness.

  1. Deepika,
Do you think that the end result is 'zero'? Has Santiago not achieved from his struggle?
And yes, please check spelling errors and capitalization.

  2. To begin something new with your ideas is appreciative. Passion for any task leads us to make it complete that’s what the old man does. Yes, I wanted to ask the same question, did the old man bring something fruitful at the end of fishing?

  3. Deepika, Your beginning line is poetic "According to me, the story The Old Man and The Sea ...". Hm... I've got the rhythm. Your thoughts match with the Great Shakespearean Tragedies, the elements of Fate and Chance. All the Shakespearean Tragic Heroes are noble people. They are very capable so far as their skills are concerned. But the Hamartia (a tragic error) of those characters lead them to their downfall. The same thing happens with Santiago, his passion for fishing is his strength and that causes the extreme pain, yet his "never dying spirit" stops him to quit. He is a winner.
